on-line surveys

On-line surveys are quantitative surveys conducted using the Internet. Respondents are invited to participate by e-mail. Personalized e-mail invitations and reminders include a link to the survey website.

Advantages

  • Results are more reliable than paper or telephone surveys because many activities are controlled by software on the survey site.

  • On-line surveys enjoy higher yield than paper or telephone surveys.

  • On-line surveys benefit from faster response times than paper telephone surveys. Most responses are received within 72 hours of sending the e-mail invitation.

  • Costs are lower compared to surveys conducted by mail or telephone.

  • Concept presentations can be integrated into the survey.

  • Trade-off studies can be integrated into the survey.

Disadvantages

  • Respondents must have access to the Internet.

  • Respondents can prematurely terminate the survey.

  • On-line respondents may not be representative of the population.
